Safety in Kuala Lumpur

Kuala Lumpur is a fairly safe city, particularly when it comes to violent crimes. As with all cities we encourage you to be aware of your surroundings and possessions. We suggest you do not dress extravagantly with expensive clothes or jewelry, this could make you a target. Be hype aware of your bags if you’re walking near a road, it is fairly common for thieves to snatch bags while driving on a motorcycle. Be cautious with ATMs and take precautions when dealing with people begging for money. Common sense is your best bet.

Taxis: We strongly recommend you do not hail a taxi off of the street, instead call a taxi company to request a pick up. If you run into issues with a taxi company call this number 1-800- 88-7732

Toilets: While rare in Kuala Lumpur some of the public toilets may not be what you are accustomed to by Western standards. There may be a slight chance of public toilets requiring you to squat. As such we suggest you bring disinfectant wipes and proper shoes. No scheduled IYLC event locations have toilets that require you to squat.
